Obituary for Rev. Dr. Deane Luther Schuessler

Rev. Dr. Deane Luther  Schuessler
Servant of the Lord Jesus Christ,
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather; age 85.
Deane passed away August 16, 2018. Born 1933, Chicago IL. He attended prep school in Fort Wayne, IN, graduated from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. He vicared in Hawaii and served as a missionary in Japan for 15 years, primarily at the Sapporo Youth Center. He returned to the U.S. to serve as pastor of three churches in the St. Paul area: King of Kings Lutheran, Roseville; Emanuel Lutheran, Inver Grove Heights; and Woodbury Lutheran, Woodbury.
He earned a Doctor of Ministry degree. Deane published a book of devotions for married couples, Devoted to God and Each Other, which was translated into four languages. In retirement, he ministered at the Ramsey County Correctional Facility and the Japanese Fellowship Church, Minneapolis. Deane enjoyed reading, bicycling, playing banjo, and spending time with his family. Known for his kindness and genuine interest in people.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Dr. Luther & Esther; brother Rev. Paul (Jeri), Rev. Karl (Jane), and sister Carol Miller. Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Julie; sons Rev. Kevin (Diane), Dr. Joel (Stacey), daughter Gay (Bob) Wolf, 10 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service, 11:00 am Friday, August 24, 2018 at Woodbury Lutheran Church, 7380 Afton Road, Woodbury, MN. Visitation 9:00 - 11:00 am. Memorials preferred.
